Public Environmental Awareness and Other Activities

 

Awareness is the basic tool for protection of the environment. The Public Environmental Awareness programme aims at creating awareness amongst general public and different segments of the society for minimizing and controlling pollution. Campaign activities are planned and executed under this plan scheme.  These include:

 
Anti-Littering and Anti Plastic Bag Campaign including waste minimization and management.
Clean Yamuna Campaign.
Anti-Fire Crackers Campaign on the occasion of Diwali festival.
Prohibiting burning of leaves campaign.
All other environmental & pollution control related issue.
The Department creates awareness by adopting multidimentional approach involving various media.  The campaigns also involve active participation of Residents Welfare Associations, Market Traders Associations, Industrial Associations, Schools/Colleges, Institutions, Corporates & NGOs.

11th Five Year Plan (2007-2012) and Annual Plan (2007-2008):
1. Name of the Scheme/Project Public Environmental Awareness And other related activities.
2. Aim and objective of the Schemes To create public environmental awareness by educating public in general and different segment of the city such as school students, Residential Welfare Associations, Market Traders Associations, Women groups etc. through various means.
3. Cost of the Scheme/ Project, Major components and date of approval Cost of scheme: 1000 Lakhs
Major components are:
  • To carry out awareness campaigns namely "Greening Delhi" " Say Yes to Eco- Friendly Bags " " Save Yamuna" " Anti Fire Crackers" "Waste minimization", "play holi with safe and Naturals colours" etc.
  • Organizing environment related mass awareness programmes.
  • Organizing sponsoring and participation in environment related exhibition, Melas, workshops etc.
  • To enhance environmental awareness among public by using publicity media such as newspaper, outdoor, TV, theatre shows, Radio etc.
  • Observing various national and international environment related Days such as World Environment Day etc.

5. Outlay and expenditure (Rs. In lacs) for previous plans
  1. Expenditure upto 9th Plan, if any: 325.92 lakhs
  2. Apploved outlay 10th Plan (2002-07) : 800 lakhs
  3. Expenditure incurred during 2002-03 to 2005-06: 332 lakhs
  4. Outlay & Anticipated Expenditure during 2006-07: 150 lakhs
6. Outlay proposed for 11th Five Year Plan (2007-12) and annual Plan 2007-08 (in case of spill over scheme from 10th plan, the same may be highlighted specifically):
  • Total Plan Outlay Proposed:
    1. 11th Five Year Plan (2007-12): 1000 lakhs
    2. Annual Plan (20074-08): 200 lakhs
7. Physical Targets & Achievements for previous plans Targets of 10th Plan:
  1. To create public environmental awareness by educating public in general and different segments of the city such as schools students, resident association market traders associations, women groups etc. through various means.
  2. To enhance the use of publicity media such as newspapers, TV Theater shows, AIR to the public
