Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL)
 
 
 
A Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) uses less power and has a higher rated life as compare to incandescent lamp.
   
3 million Delhi households need to convert incandescent into CFL immediately to save nearly 1200 MW of power, since each CFL is 50% more efficient and lasts for 3 years as against 6 months for bulb.
   
Use of Compact Fluorescent Lamps and Electronic Chokes made mandatory in new buildings
   
More than 1 millon CFLs have been sold so far
   
Transco provides subsidy - buy one get one free.
 
LED (Light Emitting Diodes)
 
 
 
LEDs produce more lumens per watt, and have longer useful life compared to alternatives.
   
400 signals out of 700 have already been converted to LED and rest before Common Wealth Games.

Solar lighting is being encouraged in parks and gardens.
   
NDMC to install solar lights in two famous parks namely Nehru park and Lodhi Garden.
   
500 such solar lights would be installed at two locations to conserve 600 units per day.
   
20 KW solar energy park developed in the Garden of Five Senses.
   
Mandatory condition in Environment Impact Assessment by MoEF
   
THYAGARAJA STADIUM for Common Wealth Game will generate 650 KVA electricity from Solar panels on the roof, providing 18% of the 100% standby arrangement.
