‘Say ‘No’ To PLASTIC BAGS' – adopt alternatives like Jute, Cloth & Recycled paper bags’ campaigns is being conducted through different media to educate public about harmful effects of plastic bags. As ‘an important component of this awareness campaign as well as to make Delhi free of thin Plastic bags
The Delhi Plastic Bag (Manufacture, Sales and Usages) and Garbage (Control) Act, 2000 has come into effect from 2.10.2001 in the NCT of Delhi. According to the Act, Manufacture, Sales and Usage of Recycled Plastic Bags for storing, carrying and packing of food is prohibited in NCT of Delhi. In addition, minimum thickness of any plastic bag should not be less than 20 microns.
Degradable plastic bags became mandatory in the following system from 5th June'05.They are
- 100 bedded and above hospital
- All five star & four star Hotels
- Restaurant & eating places having more than 100 seat capacity.

| Khelo Holi Naturally |

Department of Environment, conducted a campaign on 'Khello Holi Naturally', during Holi festival. Stalls of Natural Colours were arranged through NGOs at Delhi Hatt for distribution of the natural colours to the general public. Natural colours packets were also sent to the different stake holders. This programme received enthusiastic support from the general public.
