In order to cope up with the monsoons, I&F.C. Deptt. undertakes pre-monsoon anti water-logging & flood control measures every year, like desilting of all the Trunk Drains, Restoration of anti erosion works like spurs, installation of control rooms and check post at various stations etc.
A flood control order, giving contingencies plans to meet any serious floods in river yamuna, is issued every year prior to onset of monsoons.
The following machinery is set into operation for disaster management during extra-ordinary floods.
Constitution of Apex Committee:-
An Apex Committee has been constituted under the Chairmanship of Hon'ble Chief Minister, Delhi to recommend, supervise and co-ordinate flood control measures in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. The Composition of the committee is as under:

Secertary (Rev.)-Cum-Divisional Commissioner, who is incharge of Flood Control and Relief measures functions as Convenor Secretary of the Committee and shall be assissted by D.C. (East) in discharging these functions.
The Apex Committee will normally meet by the last week of June, and subsequently at such times as necessitated by exigency of flood situation as assessed by the Central Flood Control Room (vested with the responsibility) and clarified subsequently.
CENTRAL FLOOD CONTROL ROOM
A Central Flood Control Room will be established to assist the Apex committee would function round the clock in the Office of the D.C. (East) L.M. Bund, Shastri Nagar, Delhi w.e.f. 15th June 2012 to 15th Oct. 2012 every year or till monsoon withdraws, whichever is later. The S.D.M. Gandhi Nagar will be the Officer-in-charge of the Central Flood Control Room. Contact Telephone No. of this Control Room will be 22051234 (Disaster Management Cell) 22047073.

The name of Liaison Officers along with details like the Telephone Numbers and official/residential addresses shall be communicated to the Officer-in-Charge before 15th June 2012 and the liaison officers shall be present in the Flood Control Room after receipt of the first warning signal, as explained under the "Scheme of Operation".
Liaison Officers from Army/Air Force shall also posted to the Central Flood Control room when the Army /Air Force help is requisitioned by the Government of Delhi. Functions of Central Flood Control Room
Following are the functions of Central Flood Control Room:-
1.
To receive flood warnings and other related information.
2.
To submit Flood situation reports to the Hon'ble LG, Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Divisional Commissioner and Secretary (I&FC) every evening, or as and when the circumstances may require.
3.
To convey Flood situation reports and orders relating to flood control measures to the Sector Officers/Sector Control Rooms and the concerned Organisations/Departments of the Administration (through their Liaison Officers).
4.
To issue necessary Flood warnings and directions for evacuation.
5.
To arrange necessary food articles and relief supplies.
6.
To maintain Liaison with Upper Yamuna Division of C.W.C., R.K. Puram, New Delhi and Army/Air Force, when ever required.
7.
To maintain a fleet of vehicles needed for mobility of staff and the relief measures.
The control Room shall maintain a log-book of the messages received and despatched by it. The directions received from the senior officers and transmitted shall also recorded in the log-book under the initials of the Officer incharge.
Control Room of Irrigation & Flood Control Departmnet
A Control Room will be also set up at ISBT, in the office of the chief engineer (I&F), Govt. of Delhi, which will start functioning from 15th June, 2012 to 15th Oct. 2012 or till monsoon withdraws, whichever is later. This Control room will remain in constant touch with wireless station at Katwaria Sarai-Central Water Commission; in the Office of the D.C. (East), L.M. Bund, Shastri Nagar. Delhi, and will coordinates the activities of the Flood Control Deptt.
In addition to the above, a number of regional posts and wireless stations of Flood Control Deptt. will be set up at the following important locations along river Yamuna, Najafgarh Drain, Supplementary Drain, Jahangir Puri Outfall Drain and Trunk Drain No. 1 to monitor the situation regarding floods or drainage congestion & handle any eventuality, effectively:
