Globally, Delhi is one of the greenest metropolitan cities in the world .
A lot has been done to bring its green tree cover to 20%(320 sq km) in 2009 from 3% in 1998 as per Forest Survey of India, Report .Target has new been set to achieve 25% by 2010.
To meet the target, Forest Department and Horticulture wing of other Civic agencies viz. DDA, NDMC, MCD,PWD, DJB, CPWD, Delhi Jal Board etc. are geared up for greening Delhi.
However there is no proper coordination among them in managing about 20000 parks and gardens covering more than 8000 ha area in Delhi under these civic agencies outside Forest area.
There is a need of a uniform broad spectrum greening policy and a cohesive strategy is needed for greenery.
Keeping this in view, Govt. of NCT, Delhi has set up Delhi Parks and Gardens Society to monitor and coordinate the management of all the Parks and Gardens in NCT Delhi .
It is registered in August, 2008 under Society Registration Act,1860, having a Governing Body (GB), Governing Council (GC) and Executive Committee (EC).
Hon'ble LG heads the GB, Chief Secretary chairs the Governing council and Secretary, Environment & Forests is the President of EC.
Chief Executive officer of Society is the Member Secretary of GB,GC,& EC.
All the civic Agencies are members of the Society being represented by their Director Horticulture.
It has its own Preamble, objectives, source of funds and eligibility criteria for financial assistance , for development and maintenance activities of Parks and Gardens.
It also provides opportunities to dovetail funds to avoid duplication and best use of available funds for greenery.
Funds can be provided to RWAs/other registered societies/Eco-club schools.
Indemnity bond and Multiparty agreement have to be signed for proper utilization of funds.

Utilization Certificate and Physical verification keep a check on actual work done & proper Fund use .
