The Public Grievances Commission was set up under a Resolution dated 25.09.97 by the Government of NCT of Delhi, with the prior approval of Central Government. This provides a comprehensive mechanism for effective redressal of grievances of the public against the departments of Government of Delhi, Local Bodies, Autonomous Institutions/Undertakings and organizations owned or substantially financed by the Government of Delhi. Delhi Police was also brought under its jurisdiction vide Resolution dated 30.07.1998. It is headed by a Chairman who is assisted by a Whole Time Member and 2 Part Time Members.

The Commission is an independent body responsible for speedy redressal of complaints of the public against acts of omission or of commission. The Commission can also take suo-motu action on the basis of information contained in media reports or otherwise.
