Pollution Disaster and Hazardous Waste Management |
| Wastes generated from the industrial units are hazardous in nature, which poses serious threat to the environment in Delhi. There are many kinds of wastes as amended to date. The Department of Environment Govt. of NCT Delhi had entrusted Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study to the National Productivity Council (NPC), Lodhi Road, New Delhi for the three pre-identified potential Hazardous waste disposal sites namely. |
Bawana - Relocation site, |
Wazirpur - Industrial area CETP site and |
Gumenhera site. | |
| NPC has submitted the EIA report to the Department of Environment and process has been started for development of temporary storage as well ass TSDF for hazardous waste. Further, in an urban metropolis land is scarce and the availability of land for the purpose of disposable of Hazardous waste is extremely remote. Hence, The Department of Environment had requested the Rajasthan Govt. for a common disposal site and a common treatment facility for management of Hazardous wastes for NCT of Delhi and surrounding areas of Rajasthan and Haryana which would result into a win-win- situation with both stake holders.Regular meetings are being held with Rajasthan Govt. in this regard. How ever since the other two state government expressed reservation for sharing their facilities with Delhi, this could not materialize. |
| |
| Efforts have been made to setup TSDF facilities at Gumenhera, due to protest by the public and also as per MPD 20-21 this area has been designated has green area, this could not materialize. In the land being acquired at kanjawala village for industrial relocation, request has been sent to allot 50 acres of land for the purpose as approved by the government. |
