| Background
Founded in 1930 and commissioned in 1936 as IRWIN Hospital, it continues to be one of the premier teaching hospitals of the GNCT, Delhi and has completed its 75 Yrs. of excellent Health Care Services on 10th Jan 2005. The hospital has current sanctioned bed strength of 1676 beds. Recognizing the need for additional facilities to match the increasing demand, the hospital is undergoing phased expansion. At the end of the first phase, which is nearing completion, 500 additional beds would be added to the hospital. This increase will augment the services in the Departments of Emergency and casualty, Orthopedics and trauma, obstetrics and Gynecology, Nursing home and radiotherapy (oncology). The subsequent phase of expansion will augment the outpatient services. Vision

Continuous Quality assurance guide lines are being followed in all clinical and support services. In the calendar year 2008 more that 15 lacs patients were seen in the OPD, over 1.56 lacs patients were seen in Casualty & Emergency, approx 70042 patients were admitted, around 12,940 Major operation & 20094 minor operation were done in 26 operation theaters, around 25.7 lacs Lab tests were performed and more that 2.18 lacs x-rays, 32512 Ultrasounds, 5861 MRI, were done and hospital had a bed occupancy rate of 95 %.
Sustruta Trauma Center
Situated at 9 Metcalf roads, civil lines, this 49 bedded specialized Annexe of this hospital was dedicated to citizen of Delhi on 22/4/1999. It is equipped to handle cases of poly trauma (except burns) through a team of specialists including Surgeons, Anesthetists, Medical specialists, Radiologist, Orthopaedician. It has its own ICU, 3 operation theaters, CT Scan, Blood Bank & Laboratories. All services are available round the clock with the assistance of Lok Nayak Hospital & are free to accident victims. In case of need patients are transferred to Lok Nayak Hospital.
