Elected from Ballimaran Constituency of Chandni Chowk, Delhi to Delhi Legislative Assembly, Shri Haroon Yusuf has been one of the active and popular leaders of the Congress Part. Born on March 6, 1958 in Delhi, Shri Yusuf was inducted to the Delhi Cabinet for the first time as Minister of Development, Revenue, Irrigation and Flood Control and Food & Civil Supplies Department on 6th December, 2001 which reflected the confidence of the Party in him and his capabilities. He was re-elected, for the 3rd time as a Member of Legislative Assembly from the same constituency in December, 2003 and was made the Minister of Transport and Power, Govt. of Delhi. After registering a thumping fourth consecutive victory, he has now been appointed Minister and assigned the portfolios of Food & Supplies and Industries Department, Government of Delhi w.e.f. December, 2008.

During student days, Shri Haroon Yusuf actively participated in student politics from 1979 to 1983. He was actively associated with NSUI in different capacities. He took keen interest in the activities of Students’ Union and worked hard for solving various problems through different student forums. After completing his studies, he joined active politics. He was elected as Secretary Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress and shouldered the responsibilities as Chairman, Anti-Narcotic Cell, All India Youth Congress Wing in 1988. He was appointed Joint Secretary, All India Youth Congress Wing in 1989. He was elected to the first Delhi Legislative Assembly from Ballimaran Constituency in the Assembly Elections of 1993 and served as Deputy Chief Whip of the Legislative Assembly from 1993-96. He was re-elected to the second Legislative Assembly in 1998 with record margin in Delhi. He was again re-elected to the 3rd Legislative Assembly in December, 2003 with one of the highest margins in Delhi.

Before becoming Minister, he was worked in important capacities on different Legislative Committees. In 1999, he became the Chairman of Estimates Committee of Delhi Legislative Assembly. In the year 2000 and again in 2001 was made Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of the Delhi Legislative Assembly. He was also the Chairman of G.B. Pant Hospital Advisory Committee from 1999 to March, 2002. In 1999, he became the first elected Chairman of Delhi Wakf Board duly constituted under Wakf Act, 1995.
